Where It All Began...

About Houston, MS

Houston, population of 3,505, is a Main Street Community located in Chickasaw County, Mississippi and is one of two county seats. Judge Joel Pinson donated land for development of what is now Houston, MS on July 8, 1836. Judge Pinson named the settlement 'Houston' in memory of Sam Houston, a childhood friend.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The City of Houston proposes to increase the monthly garbage charge to 16.10 for the first can and 14.40 for any additional cans. A PUBLIC HEARING will be held at 5:30 PM on February 3, 2026, at Houston City Hall, 120 E. Madison St, Houston, MS, to address the proposed actions. Interested parties may appear at the hearing or may send written comments to the address above before or within ten (10) days following the date of the hearing.

REZONING OF PROPERTY

A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Houston City Hall at 5:30 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to provide citizens with information regarding rezoning of property located across from 327 First Avenue. It is approximately 2 acres. All comments are welcome.
